Mary's act of adoration

We talked about special gifts we've given and/or received today. We talked about Mary annointing Christ's feet with expensive ointment and how this could relate to the money spent on building temples. We discussed how we want to show our highest honor to God by having a beautiful house to worship him. Jordan also pointed out how important it is to dress appropriately for the sabbath to show our respect and honor for God. (I'm always learning something from the insights of our wonderful youth!!)

Lazarus

We spent a few days discussing the death of Jesus' friend Lazarus. How he wept with Mary and how he brought him back to life. We discussed that signs don't produce faith as taught in D&C 63:9-12. We also discussed that the raising of Lazarus serves as a TYPE of the Resurrection of Christ and studied many other "types" in the scriptures that testify of Christ.

Our True Shepherd

Today we learned the qualities of a shepherd. He would walk ahead of them and lead them, he would call them by name, he would risk his life for them. His sheep would come when they were called but not follow a stranger. Jesus used these well-known ideas about sheep and shepherds to teach about His relationship to His followers. We also discussed John 10:16 where he talks about his "other" sheep. We know from 3Nephi 15:21 in the Book of Mormon that Jesus was referring to the Nephites on the American continent. The Book of Mormon is truly another testimony of Christ.

Parable of the Chief Seats

Today we did a bit of role playing to teach one of Christ's parables from Luke 14:7-11. I had several volunteers pretend to be attending a wedding. The Father of the Bride (Jordan) invited the guests in one by one and instructed them to take a seat. There were several seats to choose from...one being a soft, comfortable chair. One by one the guests came in, but none of them took the best seat. They reserved it for the last guest, the king (McKay). I had to make some last minute adjustments as I saw my plan wasn't working out the way I wanted it to. (I had hoped they would all fight over the best seat!) It was a little jumbled but worked out....however, the bottom line was all of our volunteers already knew how to be humble and had respect for someone in authority...what Christ was trying to teach in his parable. My heart was full as I saw these wonderful students again display their Christlike actions!

Happy Birthday Kendra!!

Today is Halloween! We had a few visitors...Little Red Riding Hood (Chloe), Obe Wan Kenobi (Jordan) and some cute swim girls. Along with our Month End Breakfast, we also celebrated Kendra's 16th Birthday! Stuart played his guitar all during class and we LOVED it! Jordan sang along (with the "Force" of course)! McKay and Kaity were some of those who did some fancy pictionary drawings of their favorite scripture mastery scriptures after breakfast. Brother Northrup cooked up a great breakfast and got fancy with his pancakes! He also brought us delicious bacon! He needs to be on the FOOD network :) Thanks SO much for all your help!!

Brother Eason joined us today too! Thanks for the OJ!
Matt and Rachel used their "Force" on Jennifer's breakfast. I think we better leave those light sabers with Obe Wan!

Rock on Stuart!

Thanks Stuart for sharing your amazing talent with us today during breakfast!
